I’m Lex, and I’m currently a Digital Associate Producer & editor for The World. With a humble title, I lead all audience engagement and social media initiatives, in addition to writing the daily newsletter and completing editorial work, including story and script writing, as well as first and second edits. In my role, I am fortunate to work directly with external partners and grant funders, such as the Lumina Foundation and Out of Eden Walk/National Geographic, holding the responsibility of producing digital assets (web stories, promotion, social media content) for all radio packages and interviews.
In 2021, I was a Poynter fellow and the editor-in-chief for The Scope: Boston. I led The Scope’s coverage of the 2021 Boston City Council elections (helping profile 47 out of the 55 candidates running) and doubled website traffic and engagement from the previous year. Before that, I worked as the Outreach Assistant in the Impact division at FRONTLINE PBS, where I helped run public programming and launched targeted audience-based initiatives to accompany original FRONTLINE documentary films and supported efforts for the Un(re)solved nationwide tour. I have also worked extensively for AP’s Elections tabulation team and previously served as the main supervisor for the New England Outcall team.
I hold a B.A. in English and art history from Rutgers University-Camden and an M.A. in journalism from Northeastern University, where I was also an MLK Fellow. I specialize in local communities, international news, emerging digital media and trends, audience engagement and social media, Black people stuff and photojournalism. I also have a strong interest and extensive experience providing metrics reports and actionable next steps to news media partners.
I put Heinz ketchup on most foods, like waking up at 0330, watch too much reality TV, and I’m usually on a run or biking somewhere.
